The review of The Archive Café focused on something beyond coffee and cake: genuine hospitality. Located in the former Barclays bank on Victoria Square, the café was described as a place where the welcome is immediately noticeable.
What caught our eye
The atmosphere. The reviewer described a sense that you can “feel the love” when you walk in. Rochelle and Yasi’s aim has always been to make people feel at home rather than processed through a typical café experience.
The Ceylon. The review singled out our spicy scrambled eggs with onions, tomatoes and spices, served on sourdough with African-inspired baked beans. The request for something with a proper kick was met with a little extra spice.
The setting. Being inside an old bank gives The Archive its own character, from retained details to the mix of seating and the large, library-like room.
The community feel. The café was busy with a broad mix of customers, reinforcing exactly what we hoped the space would become: somewhere different generations and groups feel equally comfortable.
The original review made a strong case for The Archive as part of Holmfirth’s growing food and drink scene.
